Taxi operator charged in connection with killing of policeman at gas station last year
A taxi operator has been charged with several offences in connection with the killing of a policeman at a gas station last year.
He is 32-year-old Ornell Allen, otherwise called ‘Nellie’, of Westmore Gardens, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
He is charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, 6 counts of robbery with aggravation, possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
This follows the incident at the intersection of East Avenue and Beechwood Avenue, Kingston 5, on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Dead is 47-year-old Christopher Smith, a police officer of Caymanas Bay, St. Catherine.
The Half Way Tree police report that at about 10:52 p.m., a group of men was carrying out a robbery at the Texaco gas station, when Corporal Smith drove his private motor car to the petrol station to purchase fuel, unknowingly entering an active robbery scene.
While he waited, he was attacked, robbed and shot several times.
Smith was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed while being treated.
An investigation was launched and Allen was later apprehended.
Its reported that he was found in possession of the Toyota Wish motor car that was used in the commission of the crime.
He was charged following a question-and-answer session.
His court date is being finalised.
