Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will continue issuing dealer and demonstration registration plates, commonly called “blue plates,” while a new system is being developed.
TAJ says the interim arrangement will allow applications to be processed under existing legislation and policies, ensuring continuity of service to motor vehicle dealers.
The clarification follows a directive from the National Security Council (NSC) to discontinue the current system.
TAJ says it is working with relevant government ministries and partner agencies to develop an alternative that meets regulatory requirements while minimising disruption to the motor vehicle industry.
The agency says further updates on changes to procedures and implementation timelines will be provided once these are finalised.
In the meantime, dealers and other affected stakeholders are being advised to continue following the established procedures for applying for or renewing blue plates.
