Jamaican music icon Herbie Miller to be honored by the University of Minnesota

Herbie Miller, Director/Curator of the Jamaica Music Museum (JaMM), will receive the Scholar of Distinction Award from the University of Minnesota’s School of Music.

The award ceremony, scheduled for May 22, recognizes Miller’s outstanding contributions to preserving and promoting Jamaica’s rich musical heritage.

Under his visionary leadership, JaMM became a hub for music enthusiasts and scholars, showcasing the island’s vibrant cultural legacy through impactful exhibitions and events. He also advocated for a state-of-the-art

cultural complex to house the museum.

Miller’s career spans roles as a musicologist, social analyst, songwriter, and music producer. His compositions, such as “Feel It” and “Survival Plan,” have been featured in several Hollywood productions.
