The Marcus Garvey in Schools Foundation, conceptualizers of the initiative, coined to preserve the legacy of Jamaica’s first National Hero will be hosting a concert to raise funds to support the foundation.

Slated for October 20, one day before the nation observes National Heroes’ Day, the Garvey One Destiny Concert will take place at the National Arena under the patronage of the Governor General and Lady Allen.

Sizzla Kalonji, Queen Ifrica, Beenie Man, Lutan Fire, Gem Myers, Nesbeth, Fab 5, Jashii, Bongo Herman, are among the artistes billed to perform at the concert.

In an interview with IRIE FM, Chairman of the Marcus Garvey in schools Foundation Effiom Whyte says, that the teaching of the philosophies and opinions of Marcus Garvey have not been realized. Noting that studies have proven how adaptable children at the preschool level are, he said consultation was done with the principal officers of the Early Childhood Commission ahead of Heritage Week and a curriculum developed. He shared that the syllabus includes, but is not limited to, Civics, Pride in one’s Skin Colour, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy.

Mr. Whyte says approval was subsequently given to conduct pilot projects in twenty-two Basic Schools and twenty-four Primary Schools across the island.

All proceeds from the concert will support the Marcus Garvey in Schools Foundation.
