Songwriter Carla Marie Celebrates “Freedom” played at U.S. Rally

Songwriter Carla Marie Williams, of Jamaican heritage, is still in awe after a song she wrote for Beyoncé was played at a Democratic rally in the United States.

On Instagram, Carla shared a video of Beyoncé introducing Vice President Kamala Harris, captioning it, “Still pinching myself… my song #Freedom keeps living. It was used again at yesterday’s rally for the U.S. election.” She tagged Kamala Harris, Beyoncé, and Kelly Rowland, ending with, “3 powerhouse Black women pushing for change, a new song, a new day of freedom!”

“Freedom,” a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, is the tenth track on Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade. Other credited songwriters include Beyoncé, Johnny Coffey, John A. Lomax, Frank Torado, Kendrick Lamar, and Arrow Benjamin.
