West Ham United striker Mikhail Antonio has secured his place in Jamaica’s squad for the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup. This marks a significant milestone for Antonio, who is making an inspiring comeback after suffering a fractured leg in a horrific motor-vehicle accident last December.
Antonio recently training with the Reggae Boyz during their Unity Cup campaign in England. Though he was not included in the squad for Jamaica’s recent World Cup qualifiers against the British Virgin Islands and Guatemala, the 35 year old has now been named among the 26-man roster heading to the Gold Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 6 in the United States.
Notably absent from the squad is striker Shamar Nicholson, but the team welcomes fresh talent with the inclusion of newcomers Rumarn Burrell and Tyreece Campbell. The full Gold Cup squad features a mix of seasoned players and promising stars, including Andre Blake, Damion Lowe, Shaquan Davis, Mason Holgate, Bobby Reid, Ethan Pinnock and Leon Bailey.
Also making the squad are Jahmali Waite, Kyle Ming, Richard King, Joel Latibieudiere, Dexter Lembikisa, Amari Bell, Greg Leigh, Kasey Palmer, Isaac Hayden, Jon Russell, Dwayne Atkinson, Romario Williams, Demarai Grey, Warner Brown, Leon Bailey, Renaldo Cephas and Kaheim Dixon.
Jamaica has been drawn into Group C, where they will face tough competition from Panama, Guatemala, and Guadeloupe. The Reggae Boys will kick off their Gold Cup campaign against Guadeloupe on June 20 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California.
