Jamaica shines bright: IRIE FM nominated for prestigious award

Jamaica’s number one Reggae Radio Station IRIE FM, has been nominated in the Best Radio, TV, or Online Show at the 2025 National Spoken Word Awards.

The radio station that revolutionized the airwaves with its 24-hour Reggae format, is the only Jamaica media outlet nominated in the category.

Additionally, several talented locals are nominated in the Best International Artiste category. The nominees include Antonia Valaire, a two-time award winner, Kacy Garvey, Ras Takura, Wise Wurdz, Yashika Graham, Oku Onuru, and Neto Meeks.

Founded in 2017 by international award-winning spoken word poet De’Andre Hawthorne aka Blaq Ice, the National Spoken Word Awards aim to honour Spoken Word Artists and stakeholders who have made an impact in the genre. The ceremony will take place on August 31 in Chicago.

Jamaicans can show their support for their favourite talents by casting their votes online at https://blaqice.com/spoken-word-awards. Voting is open until July 31, and every vote counts in this celebration of Jamaican talent and culture.
