“We are the worst paid players,” says Buju Banton during an interview with popular American radio host and actor Big Boy.
In the interview done in Los Angeles, the Grammy-winning reggae icon called out major music conglomerates and blasted streaming platforms, accusing them of exploiting artists. Buju boldly stated, “If you can’t hold it, then you don’t own it.”
As conversations about fair compensation in the music industry continue, more artists and industry insiders are pointing out that payouts from traditional radio far outweigh those from streaming platforms.
Buju, who has never shied away from speaking his truth, recently clapped back at a European promoter who accused him of charging exorbitant fees, simply replying: “No more exploitation boss.”
