Sunshine Girls wins Rhone Hornsby Netball Trophy after beating England in four match series

The Sunshine girls are this morning still in celebrations, after pulling off an exciting 51-53 win over England last night to win the Rhone Hornsby Netball Trophy at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston to wrap up the Horizon Series .

It was the first Test series win for the coach Sasher-Gaye Henry, as the Jamaicans wrapped up the four match meeting 2-1, with Tuesday night’s triumph in-front of a jam-packed arena. 

Facing a must win situation, after pulling off a narrow 50-49 triumph in game three on Monday night to level the series, the Sunshine Girls led by ace shooter Romelda Aiken-George who scored 40 of 43 attempts and Shanice Beckford who netted 21 of 25 tries ensured it was a memorable night for the Jamaicans. 

The England Roses led the first quarter 15-11, but after that it was one way traffic, with the Sunshine Girls taking the second period 28-26, and the third quarter 42-39. 

Liv Tchine was the top scorer for England with 42 goals from 47 attempts. 

Jamaica’s head coach Sasher-Gaye Henry said her girls showed real class in their execution.  

Meanwhile, winning captain Shamera Sterling-Humprey was named Player of the Series, while Rhea Dixon won the Player of the Match award.
