Students of CASE in Portland stage protest following reports of alleged rape of female student
Upset students of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) in Portland, staged a protest today, following reports that a female student was allegedly raped.
The placard bearing students called on school administrators to implement better security measures, pointing out that the security in place is ineffective.
The Portland police are investigating the matter.
Its reported that the student was attacked by unknown assailants on Sunday.
She is receiving support and counselling.
The protesting students say they were not aware of the incident until today when it was published in the media.
One of the protesting students said the issue of safety at the college is a long standing one.
She complained that the camera system at the school is for the farm animals, not people.
She also pointed to security concerns at nights.
The student lamented that students do not feel safe and want the administrators to do more to address their concerns.
Meantime, in response to the students concerns case issued a short statement on its social media pages.
The school said it does not condone violence in any shape or form.
It expressed sympathy to those affected adding that these matters are taken seriously.
CASE said the safety and well-being of students and staff are paramount.
The school said its committed to listening, acting, and strengthening measures to ensure a safe and supportive community.
