Strong winds hamper extinguishing of Riverton blaze, efforts to be completed tonight
Strong winds today (July 12), hampered the efforts of fire fighters and other emergency responders to tackle the blaze at the Riverton Dump in Kingston.
It‘s reported that the fire started this morning and smoke billowing from the dump has already begun to affect traffic in the vicinity, as well as residents.
Public relations officer at the fire brigade Emilio Ebanks said fire trucks, and heavy duty trucks are being used to apply cover dirt to the affected areas.
Ebanks is calling on citizens to be patient as efforts continue to put out the blaze and reduce the smoke nuisance.
