Steps to be taken in 2025 to increase number of breathalyzers used by the police

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council Dr Lucien Jones says steps will be taken in 2025 to increase the number of breathalyzers used by the police.

He says through the United Nation’s Road Safety Fund, Police Officers will also be trained how to use Breathalyzer machines.

Dr. Jones says this is to guarantee that the country can have a much more effective breathalyzer programme.

He said data show that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes across the globe are found to be under the influence of alcohol.

He explained that targeting these drivers will aid in reducing road crashes in the island.

Dr Jones said the number of road fatalities this year will be strongly influenced by the first 3 months of the year.

He added that for this year, greater focus will also be placed on reducing crashes with multiple victims.
