Staff and students at Yabnel International Preparatory School in Manchester were in a sombre mood today, as they mourned the death of student, four-year-old Gia Griniell.

The girl died following a shooting incident at a premises in Ingleside, Mandeville, last night.

Police reports are that she was at home with relatives at about 10:00 PM when an explosion was heard.

When checks were made, Gia was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

She was pronounced dead at hospital.

School principal Deidria Watt-Christie described the incident as unfortunate.

Meanwhile, Head of the Kindergarten Department Stacy-Ann Griffiths said the incident has left the school community shaken.

While Dean and Grade 6 teacher Rojni Myers shared similar sentiments.
