Stacy Ann Williams and Stephenie Ann McPherson to face Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone at Brussels Diamond League

Jamaicans Stacy Ann Williams and Stephenie Ann McPherson have been added to the line-up for the special women’s 400m invitational race being staged by organizers of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme track and field meeting to accommodate double Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s quest to compete in a unique 400m – 200m double.

The announcement by meet organizers comes after it had been determined that McLaughlin-Levrone was ineligible to compete in the Diamond League finals in Brussels as a “global wild card” primarily because she had not competed at any of the other Diamond League meets this season.

The women’s 400m invitational which takes place on Friday will be the first of two events being contested by McLaughlin-Levrone with the American also in line to run in a special women’s 200m invitational race on Saturday.

McLaughlin-Levrone, who is seeking to break the American record of 48.70 seconds, ran a personal best 48.75s in New York in June.

Williams in her last outing ran a personal best 50.00 seconds in Zagreb on Sunday while McPherson clocked a season-best 50.65s in Italy at the end of August.

In field events, the men’s long jump final features former world champion Tajay Gayle and Olympic silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, with Danniel Thomas-Dodd to contest the women’s shot put and Fedrick Dacres the men’s discuss.

Paris Olympics silver medalist Shanieka Ricketts and Ackelia Smith are the Jamaicans in the women’s triple jump.

The action on Saturday’s second and final day features Ackera Nugent and Danielle Williams facing Olympic silver medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and bronze medalist Cyréna Samba-Mayela in the women’s 100mH.

The pair of Roshawn Clarke and Malik James-King will battle Alison Dos Santos and CJ Allen in the men’s 400mH event with Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell down to take part in the men’s shot put and Romaine Beckford in the men’s high jump.
