St. James and St. Ann recorded the most suspected, probable or confirmed leptospirosis cases; 6 deaths confirmed
St. James and St. Ann are the parishes with the most suspected, probable or confirmed leptospirosis cases.
Speaking at a press conference today, Principal Medical Officer and National Epidemiologist, Dr. Karen Webster Kerr, said St. James recorded 14 suspected cases, 8 of which have been confirmed.
St. Ann recorded 8 suspected cases, 3 of which have been confirmed.
She noted that as at yesterday, there were 90 suspected leptospirosis cases in Jamaica.
Dr. Webster Kerr explained that 7 of the suspected cases previously reported were discarded, due to negative results.
She said 21 cases have been confirmed, 18 of which are considered post-Hurricane Melissa cases.
Turning to deaths, she noted that of the 14 leptospirosis related deaths, 6 have been confirmed.
The national epidemiologist said the confirmed deaths are deemed post-Hurricane Melissa casualties.
