St. Elizabeth residents continue to protest over lack of electricity; Smoothland main road latest to be blocked

The Smoothland Main Road in St. Elizabeth was blocked this morning by residents who remain frustrated about the pace of power restoration by the Jamaica Public Service, JPS.

The protest follows several in the parish last week.

Head of the St. Elizabeth Police Superintendent Coleridge Minto said the thoroughfare which was blocked by downed trees and other debris has been cleared.

He said a strong police presence will be maintained in the area.

Last week residents blocked the Crane Road and the Fullerswood Main Road as they called for power to be restored.

JPS says power will be fully restored in St. Elizabeth by August 31.
