St. Catherine South police division saw reductions in murders and shootings in 1st quarter

The St. Catherine South Police division saw a 13.2 per cent reduction in murders at the end of March in comparison to the similar period last year.

Speaking at the division’s town hall meeting yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Christopher Phillips stated that at the end of this year’s  first quarter, shootings also decreased by 10.7 per cent, when compared to the similar period last year.

However, ACP Phillips noted that there is an increase in other major crimes such as break ins, robberies, larceny and sexual offences.

ACP Phillips said the police will continue to enhance the support service especially for victims of sexual offences and intensify the public campaign to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts.
