The St. Catherine South Police Division is reporting a 93.8% increase in rapes.
The division has received reports of 62 cases of rape so far this year in comparison to 32 in the corresponding period last year.
Speaking at a St. Catherine South Town Hall meeting yesterday, Area 5 Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police, Christopher Phillips, says the increase in rapes is cause for concern.
He said the number of missing persons is also an issue in the division.
In the meantime, ACP Phillips noted that while murders have decreased, other major crimes, such as robberies and break-ins, are seeing an increase.
