St. Andrew man fatally shot during alleged confrontation with police
A St Andrew man was fatally shot by cops during an alleged confrontation after he reportedly made a gun salute for the new year.
Dead is 25 year old Imani Simpson of Boone Hall.
Reports are at about 12 midnight, Simpson discharged a firearm, while in a section of the community known as Duppy Gully.
During an altercation with officers, Simpson was shot.
Further reports are that the wounded Simpson fled the area, leaving the weapon behind.
The cops conducted a search and Simpson was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Cops also recovered one Berta 9 millimetre pistol with a magazine containing seven 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition.
The matter is being investigated by the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB).
Meantime, the Independent Commission of Investigations, Indecom said its agents initially responded to reports of an incident classified as discharge of firearm.
This was later changed to a fatal shooting.
Investigations are ongoing.
