Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has confirmed that the resurfacing of the running track at the National Stadium is progressing according to plan and remains on track to be completed on time.

“I’m happy to report that we’re on track based on the work plan and timelines that have been established,” said Minister Grange following her visit to the National Stadium at Independence Park on Wednesday afternoon. During the visit, she held discussions with Doug Stone, the Vice President for the North American region and other representatives from Rekortan, the company engaged to resurface the track.

Minister Grange shared that the Rekortan team is confident about completing the work in time for the highly anticipated ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships, known as Champs.

“The team that’s here from Rekortan, which includes the vice president, they’re very confident that they will complete the work in time for Champs. They showed me the work plan, walked me through it, indicated some of the issues that exist on the ground. They said they have found some areas where they have to cut out and treat.  They’ll work day and night so that the schedule that has been worked out — we will meet those deadlines.” Minister Grange said.

The Minister further explained that the Rekortan team, in collaboration with Independence Park Limited, is diligently working on the track. “The track has already been washed and will undergo another round of washing. They’re currently assessing areas that require special treatment to ensure everything meets the required standards,” she added.

Addressing concerns about the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup game scheduled for March 13 at the National Stadium, Minister Grange reassured the public that the football event would not affect the track resurfacing project. “The date for the football match is already factored into the work plan. This means that the resurfacing work will continue without any disruptions,” she clarified.

The Minister concluded by expressing her confidence in the completion of the project, stating, “Barring any unforeseen events, such as acts of God, I am fully satisfied that the work will be completed as scheduled.”
