South West St. Ann MP Zavia Mayne says new Alexandria Market will revive economic activity in area
Member of Parliament for South West St. Ann, Zavia Mayne, says the new Alexandria Market will revive economic activity in the area.
The market is one of several that was earmarked for rehabilitation by the government.
Speaking at yesterday’s contract-signing and groundbreaking ceremony, the MP noted that construction of the facility is something residents have long anticipated.
He said the project represents a major step forward in strengthening commercial activity and providing improved opportunities for vendors.
Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, said the Alexandria Market is the first to be built under Jamaica’s rebuilding initiative, following the passage of hurricane Melissa last October.
He noted that the facility is being designed with long-term durability in mind and will reflect a modern standard.
The minister noted that the new market will have proper sanitation facilities, a dedicated meat section, as well as a transportation hub.
