Some public doctors reportedly restive

There could be disruptions in the public health sector in the coming days as some 2,500 of the nation’s medical doctors are reportedly restive.

Their frustration is due to reported continued delays by the government to resolve the issue of overtime monies owed to them.

The Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association, JMDA says it met with the Ministries of Finance and Health, as well as the regional health authorities, regarding the matter yesterday, but there was no meaningful progress.

In a letter addressed to Finance Minister Fayval Williams dated today December 5, 2024, the JMDA says members are upset and the persistent delays can no longer be accepted.

President Dr. Renee Badroe says a comprehensive and transparent resolution is expected within twenty-four hours.

She says if the authorities fail to act, the JMDA cannot guarantee normalcy in the health sector.
