Some residents in port royal have chosen to remain in their communities despite multiple warnings for them to evacuate.

Port Royal’s location on the Palisadoes Peninsula makes it highly susceptible to natural disasters.

The town is also located at the southeastern end of the island, an area identified by the MET Service as likely to be impacted by the centre of the hurricane between 10 A.M. and 8 this evening.

This morning, a bus from the Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) was dispatched by the Ministry of Local Government to transport residents of Port Royal to the National Stadium.

However, several residents refused to board the bus.

One resident said she felt more secure staying in her community.
