Solid performances for Jamaicans at Tom Jones Memorial meet

Former Calabar high stand out Kimar Farquharson of Texas A&M University won the men’s 800 metres title at the Tom Jones Memorial meet on the weekend, to lead home a Jamaica 1-2-3 finish on the final day of competition in Florida. 

It took a photo finish for Farquharson to be declared the winner, as he stopped the clock in 1 minute 46.69 seconds, to edge national record holder Navasky Anderson, who was the runner up in 1 minute 46.76 seconds, while the other jamaican Tarees Rhoden of Clemson was third in 1 minute 46.82 seconds.

Finishing down the track was another Jamaican in Tyrese Reid of Mississippi State, the fastest Jamaican over the distance this year with 1 minute 45.76, he finished sixth in 1 minute 47.67 seconds.

In the women’s sprint hurdles, Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent,…………  was fourth in 12.52 seconds. 

Nugent fellow Jamaican, the reigning World Champion Danielle Williams, finished fifth with a time of 12.57 seconds

The event was won by Usa’s 2019 World Champion Nia Ali in a world leading time of 12.44 seconds. 

World champion Grant Holloway took the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.21 seconds. 

In the field, Lamara Distin was a second-place finisher in the women’s high jump, as she cleared the bar 1.92metres.
