Six workers associated with the Burger King restaurant in New Kingston were taken to hospital this morning, following an explosion at the fast-food outlet.

Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the police are now at the scene.

One woman who works at the Jamaica Football Federation, which is in close proximity to the restaurant, recounts hearing a loud bang, which several of her colleagues initially thought was a motor vehicle crash.

She says she and her colleagues are concerned about the well-being of those reportedly injured.

This is the second such explosion to occur in the area since 2020.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Stewart Beckford, says that although there are theories on what caused this morning’s explosion, nothing has been confirmed.

Commissioner Beckford told IRIE FM News that fire fighters are still conducting investigations.

He also confirmed that six restaurant workers had been taken to hospital.
