The police seized six firearms and ten 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation in Kingston 20 on Friday.

One man was arrested.

Reports are that at about 7:14 P.M., investigators assigned to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) intercepted a motor car and a search of the vehicle revealed the prohibited weapons, ammunition and six magazines.

The driver, a taxi operator from Duhaney Park, Kingston 20 was arrested.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

This seizure brings the total number of prohibited weapons seized by FNID within the past three weeks to 276.

Since the start of 2025, FNID has seized 413 prohibited weapons, accounting for 58% of the total 713 weapons seized by the police so far this year.

The Constabulary says its efforts have already yielded 86% of the total prohibited weapons seized in the entire year of 2024, which stood at 833.

Director of FNID, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe stated that these seizures are a direct result of strategic policing efforts aimed at crime reduction and control alongside a commitment to improve the safety and security of citizens.

According to Acting SSP Rowe, firearms remain the weapon of choice in violent crimes perpetrated islandwide.

He says police are intensifying operations, leveraging intelligence, technology and the support of stakeholders to pursue illegal weapons.
