Sick out by midwives to continue today
The sick out by midwives is expected to continue into a second straight day today (June 6).
The midwives are upset as they say the Government has not been responding to their concerns arising from the compensation review.
The Jamaica Midwives Association says the workers are not being treated as if their service enhances nation-building.
Acting President Sharon Bambury-Edwards says the Association contacted the Finance Ministry with the expectation of a meeting to air their concerns but she says the Ministry has not moved to hold dialogue with the midwives.
Meantime, Vice President Nicole Smart says the midwives have had problems since the implementation of the new compensation package.
She says they were misled during negotiations.
Ms Smart adds that the package has done more harm than good and indicates that members are facing financial challenges.
