Shriners Hospital in USA to continue care for burn victims Adrianna Laing and Alecia King until 21st birthday

The Shriners Hospital for Children in the United States has pledged to continue care for burn victims 15-year-old Adrianna Laing and 19-year-old Alecia King until their 21st birthday.

The hospital has been partnering with the Sanmerna Foundation to help the teenagers who have made several visits to the U.S. for treatments and corrective surgeries, among other things.

Adrianna was injured in a house fire in Westmoreland in 2022 which claimed the lives of her three younger brothers.

Alecia was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire by her former boyfriend after he entered her St. Catherine home while she was asleep in 2023.

The ladies met and exchanged words of encouragement at the Sangster International Airport in St. James yesterday when Adriana returned to Jamaica.

Alecia returned last week.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Project Manager at the Foundation Paige Dixon says Adrianna underwent 28 surgeries.

Ms. Dixon notes that Alecia is scheduled to undergo more surgeries, despite having done 30 procedures already.

She says the Sanmerna Foundation is pleased that the ladies are continuing on a path to recovery.
