Shimona Jok signs new contract with Melbourne Mavericks
Sunshine Girls shooter Shimona Jok has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Melbourne Mavericks that sees her become one of ten players contracted by the team for the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball League season.
Jok, who joined the Mavericks as a training partner before the 2024 season, was elevated to the active roster as replacement for Sasha Glasgow who fractured her lower-leg during a pre-season match against Sunshine Coast Lightning.
The 25 year old, having made her debut in round three against a West Coast Fever team that featured Jamaican compatriots Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, Shanice Beckford and Kadie-Ann Dehaney, went on to become one of the best performers for the Melbourne-based franchise which was formed at the end of the 2023 season after the now defunct Collingwood Magpies declined to renew their license.
She was recently named inaugural winner of the Maverick of the Year Club Champion award.
The club released the following statement on their social media channels announcing the news.
“It’s with huge grins on our faces that we can announce Shimmy has accepted a contract to be a Melbourne Maverick for the ’25 season,” the club stated.
The Mavericks just missed out on cementing a playoff berth on goal-percentage behind Sunshine Coast Lightning with both teams ending on 24 points.
