Shenseea makes history despite MTV VMAs loss

Despite not taking home the award for Best Afrobeats at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, Shenseea’s presence at last night’s event held at the UBS Arena in New York City has been cemented in music history.

The Jamaican dancehall artiste was vying for an award from her second VMA nomination for the Silent Addy produced Shake It to the Max remix alongside fellow Jamaican artiste Skillibeng and Ghanaian artiste Moliy.

This nomination marked a significant milestone for Shenseea, who became the first Jamaican woman to be nominated for two VMAs. Her previous nomination was in 2022 for ‘Push Performance of the Year” for her global PUSH Artist performance of “R U That” featuring 21 Savage.

Tyla, who emerged the winner in the category, won for her song Push 2 Start from a field of competitors such as Rema, Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy among others.
