Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opts out of 100m in Switzerland after feeling discomfort during warm-up

Former world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was a no-show at Tuesday’s Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern – World Athletics Continental Tour – Silver meeting in Switzerland.

The event was meant to be Fraser-Pryce’s first international race of the season and her first outing since finishing third at the Jamaican Championships in June.

The three-time Olympic champion was listed to contest the women’s 100m as part of preparations for what she has said will be her fifth and final Olympics at the upcoming Games in Paris.

However she opted out after saying she “felt something” during pre-race warm-ups.

In her absence, Zoe Hobbs of New Zealand won heat one in 11.17 seconds to finish first overall in the time final. Home favorite Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland won heat two in 11.20 seconds to finish second overall ahead of Jamaica’s Kemba Nelson who was second in that heat but third overall in 11.21 seconds.

Serena Cole, Shashalee Forbes and Jodean Williams had the 5th, 8th and 9th fastest times respectively. Cole – who finished second in heat one – clocking 11.24 seconds with Forbes and Williams both timed at 11.31s.

Krystal Sloley (11.38), Briana Williams (11.50) and Kishawna Niles (11.58) were 11th, 13th and 14th overall respectively.

In the men’s equivalent, former national champion Rohan Watson (10.32) and Michael Campbell (10.37) finished 9th and 12th overall with Nigeria’s Ajayi Kayinsola winning in 10.00 seconds ahead of American Ronnie Baker who was second in 10.09s.

Stacey-Ann Williams was the lone Jamaican winner at the event, clocking 50.56 seconds to claim the women’s 400 metres ahead of Lisanne de Witte of the Netherlands 51.99s and Annina Fahr of Switzerland 52.08s.

Lanae Thomas was second overall in the women’s 200m, her time of 22.60s placing her behind Jessika Gbai (Ivory Coast) 22.57s. Jodean Williams who also contested the event was 5th in a time of 23.01s.

Ackelia Smith, the other Jamaican in Luzern took part in the women’s long jump where she placed 4th with a best effort registering 6.61m behind Switzerland’s Annik Kälin 6.65m.

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico was victorious in the women’s 100mH, posting a time of 12.41s (+0.3) ahead of Colombia’s Maribel Caicedo in 12.64s.
