Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce withdraws from women’s 100m semifinals at Paris Olympics

Two-time Olympic women’s 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has withdrawn from the women 100 metre semifinals at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.

The shock announcement came moments before Fraser-Pryce was due to line up in semifinal 2 which also included reigning world champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States.

Both Fraser-Pryce and Richardson were among a group of athletes that were earlier temporarily denied entry to the warm up track at the Paris Olympics

Video obtained by IRIE FM Sports showed Fraser-Pryce waiting outside the entrance to the facility where she was denied entry by security officials.

Both athletes had reportedly arrived at the venue in private vehicles and not the shuttle provided by the organizers and were told they could not be allowed in.

A second video showed Fraser-Pryce and someone who looks to be a coach being led away by another Paris Olympics official, presumably to another entry while Richardson, who was clad in a blue training suit, remained at the gate.

Frasey-Pryce was seeking her third Olympic 100m title while Richardson is on the hunt for her first.
