Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce among 3 Jamiacan ladies through to 100 metres semi-final at Paris Olympics

Jamaica enjoyed a good first morning in track and field as the marquee disciplne for Jamaica at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games moved into full swing today.
The experience Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce, the up coming Tia Clayton and last minute inclusion Sashalee Forbes all made progress in the womens 100 metres event, but their was disappointment for Lamara Distin in the womens high jump.
Clayton comfortably made progress in the womens 100 metres as she faced the starter for the first time in an individual effort at an international competition, she crossed the line in a time of 11 seconds flat for second place in heat 4.
Sashalee Forbes, meanwhile clocked 11.19 seconds in heat 6 to advance and 8 times Olympic medalist Fraser-Pryce booked her place in the semi-finals with a time of 10.89 seconds.
The time posted by Fraser -Pryce was the second fastest time overall in the morning sessin, behind Marie Jose Talou of the Ivory Coast who posted 10.87 seconds in the same heat.
Lamara Distin ranked number 8 in the world coming into the Olympics, managed to clear 1.88 metres in the womens high jump, but failed to progress to the final.
Meanwhile, Swimmer Josh Kirlew who contested the first heat of the men’s 100 metres butterly placed 5th in a time of 54.66 seconds, but it was not good enough to get him into the last 16.
The evening session which gets underway at 11 o’ clock Jamaica time will see action for Jamaica in the womens triple jump, the womens discus, the mixed relays, the womens 800 metres along with the the mens Shot Putt, and discus event.
The first medal event in track and field that will close out the opening day, is the Men’s 10 Thousand metres final.
