Shanoya Douglas in line to receive silver medal from the 2024 World Under 20 Championship

World under 20 sprint relay gold medalist Shanoya Douglas is now in line to have a medal upgrade from the 2024 World Under 20 Championship in Lima Peru.

Douglas who recently withdrew from jamaica’s World Indoor Championship team to Poland, won a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the World Under 20 Championship in Peru back in 2024.

However, since the disqualification of Adejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands who won the event in 22.74 seconds, the silver medalist Torrie Lewis of Australia,  will be upgraded to gold and the Jamaican Douglas is now in line to receive the silver medal.

Another Australian runner Jessica Milat, who originally finished fourth would be upgraded to bronze.

In the meantime, Hodge’s ban was for the presence of the banned substances Sulfone and Sulfoxide that were found in her system, while her club team -mate jamaican Kkyler Franklin’s suspension was for  metabolites of cadarine or GW1516.

Both athletes trained under coach Gerald Phiri at montverde academy in Florida.

the athletics integrity unit (aiu) has since March 18, 2025 provisionally suspended phiri, the director of track and field and cross country at Montverde Academy.

The provisional suspension comes as part of an ongoing joint investigation with the us anti-doping agency (UDSADA) and was triggered after three athletes, coached by Phiri, returned “adverse analytical findings” for the same prohibited substance, .

Meanwhile, their teammate at the time Issam Asinga, competing for suriname, also received a four year ban and  is set to return to competition in august 2027.

Asinga has maintained his  innocence, stating  that he consumed gatorade recovery gummies that were contaminated with the substance GW1516, resulting in his positive test.
