Several vehicles and weapons seized during sweep by police in Browns Town, St. Ann
Four people were served summonses to appear in court, and several vehicles and weapons were seized during a sweep by the police in Browns Town, St. Ann, yesterday (August 23).
The sweep which was conducted in partnership with the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, was done under the police initiative “Operation Leviticus”.
The operation aimed at restoring law and order in the parish was launched earlier this month.
In giving an update on the operation, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of operations in zone three, Ryan Gayle said yesterday’s operation was a response to an increase in murders and road crashes in the area.
He said vendors were also checked.
Meanwhile, over 1.5 million dollars worth of perishable and non- perishable items were seized by the police in the Ocho Rios Market.
Twelve people were summoned to court for exposing goods for sale.
The seizures and summonses are a part of operation Leviticus, which is aimed at reclaiming market place, improving the shopper experience and preventing infringement of shoppers’ rights.
The police say two people were also arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
