Several residents in the Corporate Area call for authorities to address poor state of Sandy Gully

Residents of Waterhouse, Seaview Gardens and Riverton City in Kingston and St. Andrew are calling on the authorities to implement immediate solutions to restore and protect the Sandy Gully, citing growing health and safety concerns.

The Sandy Gully, a concrete-lined drainage channel in the Corporate Area, flows through several communities, and serves as a critical stormwater outlet to Kingston Harbour.

Yesterday, several residents gathered at the Sandy Gully Bridge, to plead with the authorities to clear the gully.

One Riverton City resident, who has been living in the community for over 10 years, said the issue is getting worst.

Another resident from Waterhouse, echoed the concerns, saying the deteriorating state of the gully also endangers children in the area.

In May, Works Minister Robert Morgan announced that $300 million will be allocated for essential work on the Sandy Gully and its tributaries in St. Andrew.
