Several public hospitals, health centres providing only emergency services as some medical consultants are off the job
Several public hospitals and health centres across the country are providing only emergency services this morning as many medical consultants are off the job.
Their grouse is over the Government’s delay in paying their retroactive salaries.
Last week, the Association of Government Medical Consultants (AGMC) said an update from the Finance Ministry indicated that the payments would be made outside of the current fiscal year.
AGMC’s Spokesman Dr. Myrton Smith told IRIE FM News this morning that the decision has not been well received by the medical consultants.
As such, they have decided to take action.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association (JMDA) said it stands in unwavering solidarity with the AGMC.
The junior doctors are wearing black today as they call for fair compensation and respect.
The JMDA said their devoted colleagues at the AGMC are advocating for their right to prompt and equitable justice and their voices must be heard.
Noting that the medical consultants serve the nation with unwavering dedication despite the challenges JMDA President Dr. Renee Badroe is calling for better treatment.
