Several Haitians repatriated

A group of Haitians was repatriated last evening.

The repatriation of Haitians who were being held at police lock ups across the island occurred between 5 and 9 pm.

Some of them reportedly left children behind.

The nationals were reportedly rounded up and shipped off the island from the Boundbrook Wharf in Portland.

Attorney at law and Founder of freedom Imaginaries, Malene Alleyne, told Irie FM News some of them were sent away without being given the chance to say good-bye to their families.

Ms. Alleyne expressed concern that these exercises are displacing families.

She noted that two Haitian children who were taken from their mother remain unaccounted for.

Ms. Alleyne is repeating her call for an investigation into the treatment of Haitian migrants.

She wants Jamaicans to send a message to the government that this is unacceptable.

Yesterday’s mass repatriation exercise comes on the heels of the return of 20 Haitians to their country on October 6, a day after they arrived in Portland by boat.
