Several flights to and from Jamaica impacted by closure of London’s Heathrow Airport
Several flights to and from Jamaica have been impacted, following the closure of London’s Heathrow Airport in the United kingdom.
The airport was shut down, after a fire broke at a nearby electrical substation that supplies it with power.
According to the BBC this resulted in flights being cancelled.
People were also evacuated from their homes and local schools were closed.
Speaking with Irie FM News this morning, State Minister for Tourism Delano Seiveright said although initial statements said disruptions should end at midday, it is expected that further delays and cancellations could happen.
However, he said arrangements are being explored in relation to accommodations on other flights.
He called on travellers to stay in full contact with their airlines at this time.
Meanwhile, Heathrow Airport said it will resume some flights later, today.
This after a fire at a nearby facility resulted in the airport’s closure.
Heathrow said it is prioritising customers who have been diverted to European airports
It hopes to run a full service on Saturday.
However, persons are being urged not to travel to Heathrow unless advised by their airline.
