Senior prosecutor Claudette Thompson named Acting Director of Public Prosecutions
Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Claudette Thompson is now the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ms. Thompson assumes the role effective today, after former DPP Paula Llewellyn indicated yesterday that she was unable to carry out the functions of her office at this time.
The development follows Friday’s ruling by the Constitutional Court that the second extension of Ms. Llewellyn’s tenure as DPP was unconstitutional.
It also follows a call from the Opposition People’s National Party for Ms. Llewellyn to resign from the post.
In a statement this morning, the Justice Ministry said Ms. Thompson has been approved as acting DPP by Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen upon the recommendation of the Public Service Commission.
It said Ms. Thompson brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the pursuit
of justice to the position.
