Senior cop accused of sexually assaulting female corporal almost a decade ago found not guilty
A senior cop who was accused of sexually assaulting a female corporal almost a decade ago is now free of the charge.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gary Chambers was found not guilty by the St. Catherine Parish Court on Thursday.
Allegations are that in October 2016, Chambers attempted to fondle the female corporal while they were in a service vehicle.
The matter was reported and following investigations, the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that Chambers be charged.
The senior cop denied the allegations.
In court, defense lawyer Peter Champagnie argued that the female corporal made the claims against his client because he did not support her request for promotion.
The lawyer further argued that the allegations were made because Chambers was about to file a lawsuit for defamation of character against the female corporal.
The lawyer also pointed to several inconsistencies in the corporal’s testimony, including claims about an apology during a mediation meeting which was disputed by other persons at the meeting.
At the end of the closing arguments, the senior parish judge found Chambers not guilty.
