Seiveright says Jamaica-China engagements must deliver long-term value for Jamaicans
State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright, says Jamaica’s growing engagement with China must deliver stronger local business linkages, jobs, skills transfer and long-term value for Jamaicans.
Speaking at the Chinese New Year, Spring Festival 2026 – Year of the Horse celebration in Montego-Bay recently, Seiveright said true partnerships must be grounded in respect, clarity and real outcomes for local enterprises.
Seiveright pointed to the evolving Jamaica–China partnership across infrastructure, health, tourism and private-sector investment, noting that such cooperation has strengthened national connectivity, expanded Jamaica’s capacity to host high-value business and tourism activity, and contributed to long-term social development.
He highlighted the growing footprint of Chinese private-sector investment in construction, hospitality and real estate, including large-scale developments such as The Pinnacle in Montego-bay.
Mr. Seiveright also noted the growing presence of Chinese vehicle brands such as BYD, Jaecoo, Omoda, Jetour and GWM on Jamaican roads.
He then urged stronger business-to-business partnerships with Jamaican companies as Jamaica deepens its commercial ties with China.
