Security Minister Dr Horace Chang lauds major JamaicaEye milestone
Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang has expressed confidence that as the government improves efficiency in law enforcement, crime prevention will increase.
He was speaking yesterday, at commissioning of the JamaicaEye Monitoring Centre at the Denham Town Police Station in Kingston.
The minister noted that the monitoring centre is a major upgrade to the national closed-circuit television, CCTV, programme.
He described the milestone as a strategic move to increase visibility in areas that have faced chronic challenges with crime, gang activity, and public disorder.
This latest JamaicaEye build out has 2 hundred and 85 high definition CCTV cameras, installed and operational in Denham Town, Waltham and the Down Town Business District.
Dr Chang emphasised that acquiring technological tools for the Jamaica Constabulary Force is an expensive endeavour that has to be done.
The project represents an investment of approximately 3 hundred million dollars.
There are nine monitoring centres in operation across various town centres with plans for several others.
He emphasized that through the JamaicaEye build out and other initiatives, his ministry is providing the police with the necessary tools.
The National Closed Circuit Television CCTV Master Plan requires an additional 2 thousand 5 hundred cameras to be installed, over a three year period.
