Security expert concerned about attacks on guards
The Jamaica Society of Industrial Security (JSIS) has raised concern about the recent attacks on members of the security forces, particularly, security guards.
Yesterday (February 27), three security guards attached to Beryllium Limited were shot – one of them fatally – by gunmen at the Jamaica National bank in Portmore Pines, St. Catherine.
The gunmen also made off with $10 million.
Hours earlier, two security guards were allegedly mistakenly shot by police at a plaza in Negril, Westmoreland. One of the guards, later died.
President of JSIS, Lieutenant Commander George Overton has condemned the incidents.
He noted that the country’s security apparatus seems to be under attack, as several members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have also been targeted by gunmen, recently.
He said the attacks signal that the society is becoming more violent.
