Search underway for missing teen after a motor truck plunged into the Rio Cobre
A search is underway for a missing male after a motor truck ran into a rock and plunged into the Rio Cobre in St. Catherine last night.
Three males were in the truck at the time of the accident.
The crash occurred about 11:00 P.M.
The two other males were rescued and taken to hospital, and are being treated.
Speaking with IRIR FM News this morning, Head of the police’s Public Safety Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), Superintendent Lloyd Darby said a teen was driving the motor vehicle.
He said the teen would have celebrated his 18th birthday today.
He said survivors of the incident indicate that the driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle while navigating the Bog Walk Gorge, causing the truck to collide with a rock before plunging into the river.
Superintendent Darby said members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the St. Catherine Police and community members are actively combing the area for the teen.
