Search continues for man who killed teen girl at Palm Grove Court; Education Ministry activates trauma response team

The search continues for a man accused of sexually and physically assaulting a teen girl at her home in Palm Grove Court in St. Andrew yesterday.

Dead is 14-year-old Price Johnson.

Reports are that at about 1:59 PM, a man entered the apartment where Johnson resided and attacked her.

Residents reportedly heard screams coming from the apartment.

A relative, who was alerted, entered the apartment and was later seen wrestling with the man.

However, the attacker escaped.

The teen girl was later found with wounds to her head and face.

She was taken to hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

The relative, who also sustained injuries when he challenged the attacker, was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Speaking to reporters on the incident, Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew South Police Superintendent Damion Manderson described the attack as gruesome.

He also noted that Johnson’s killing followed two weeks of no murder in the division.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said her Ministry activated its trauma response team, which visited the Haile Selassie High School where Johnson was a student early this morning.

She noted that grief counselling was offered to the students and staff.
