Search and rescue underway for 11 missing fishermen
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is conducting search and rescue operations to find eleven fishermen who are missing.
The fishermen departed the Cow Bay area in St. Andrew for the Morant Cays in three canoe-type vessels on Saturday, June 29.
They were expected to return on Tuesday July 2 but failed to show up. Efforts to reach them proved futile.
As a result, the JDF was contacted yesterday, and it began search and rescue operations.
The JDF has deployed a helicopter from its air wing, along with offshore patrol vessels to locate the missing fishermen.
Seafarers are being asked to report any sightings of a red, white, and blue fishing vessel, named “Blessing”, a green and burgundy fishing vessel named “Prayer Warrior” and a vessel named “Prayer Warrior 2”.
Head of the police communications unit, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay says the marine police are assisting the JDF coast guard, with the search for the missing fishermen.
