Seales, Hope Shine as West Indies crush Pakistan to clinch historic series win
Pacer Jayden Seales and captain Shai Hope produced standout performances to propel the West Indies to a commanding 203-run victory over Pakistan in the third and deciding One Day International at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Tuesday.
The win secured a 2-1 series triumph for the Caribbean side, ending a 34-year ODI series drought against Pakistan and earning valuable points in the race for qualification to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Inserted to bat, the West Indies posted a formidable 294 for 6 from their allotted 50 overs, anchored by a masterful innings from Hope. The skipper stroked an unbeaten 120 from 94 balls—his 18th ODI century—laced with 10 fours and 5 sixes.
Hope shared an unbroken 110-run seventh-wicket partnership with Justin Greaves, who struck 43 not out, decorated by four boundaries and two sixes. Evin Lewis (37) and Roston Chase (36) also made useful contributions, while for Pakistan, Naseem Shah (2-72) and Abrar Ahmed (2-34) picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Pakistan’s top order crumbled under a fiery spell from Seales, who ripped through the visitors’ batting, reducing them to 23 for 4 inside 9 overs. The 23-year-old speedster dismissed all four top-order batsmen in a devastating opening burst and went on to claim a career-best 6 for 18, earning him the Player of the Series award.
Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 92 in 29.2 overs, handing the West Indies their largest margin of victory against a full ICC member nation on home soil. Gudakesh Motie (2-37) and Roston Chase (1-16) chipped in with wickets, while Salman Agha (30), Mohammad Nawaz (23 not out), and Hasan Nawaz (13) were the only Pakistani batsmen to reach double figures.
