Scores of residents protest bad road conditions and lack of water in St. Mary, this morning
Residents in Port Maria, St. Mary this morning (October 18) mounted roadblocks in protest over a lack of water supply and poor road conditions.
The protesters used old tires and other debris to block roadways leading to several communities, such as Free Hill, Bailey’s vale, Highgate and Sand Side.
The residents who are demanding a change in their predicament, say they have been suffering for far too long.
One female protester noted that residents will continue to block the roads until they have proper thoroughfares and better water supply.
She is urging Member of Parliament for Central St Mary, Dr Morais Guy to intervene to help them.
She noted that some children, who have also been impacted by the poor road conditions, also joined this morning’s protest.
Meantime, when questioned about claims that he did not provide the necessary assistance to get roadways in Central St Mary repaired, Dr. Morais Guy noted that he has made representation to have the roads fixed.
The Member of Parliament admitted that the roadways, especially the thoroughfare from Bailey’s Vale to Free Hill have been in a deplorable state for more than two years.
He added that despite his representation, the responsibility lies with the Government.
