Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says schools have become battlefields.

His comment follows a number of violent incidents at schools, many of which have been captured on video and circulated on social media.

The latest incident this week showed an incident involving a student and teacher at a St Elizabeth based high school, with Education Minister Fayval Williams condemning the conduct of the teacher, who was shown in the video verbally assaulting, chasing and threatening a student with death.

The school board is meeting today over the matter.

Speaking at the Manchester alternative dispute resolution forum at church teachers college in Manchester this morning, Mr Chuck said school ought not to be battlefields.

He stated that when there is conflict and fear in schools it is difficult for children to learn.

Mr Chuck said an initiative has been undertaken to promote conflict resolution in schools.
